Hungary aims to recover full €10bn EU recovery fund

Hungary’s Minister of Transport and Investment, Dávid Vitézy, has pledged to recover the full €10 billion available from the European Union’s recovery fund. Speaking at a government briefing in Budapest, Vitézy stated that the previous administration’s lack of anti-corruption measures and legislative steps had prevented the release of these funds.

To secure the resources, the government is working toward specific milestones that must be met by August 31. Vitézy noted that more than half of the required projects have already reached the stage where documentation can be submitted to confirm that necessary investments and measures have been implemented.

In addition to the recovery fund efforts, the minister announced plans to tender 4,000 megawatts of wind energy capacity by the end of 2030 to bolster national energy security. He also emphasized the importance of reviewing motorway concessions as part of the government's broader investment and transport strategy.
