Hungary and Croatia agree on Zaláta-Dravica gas field development

Hungarian Economic and Energy Minister István Kapitány and Foreign Minister Anita Orbán met with Croatian officials in Zagreb to discuss strengthening bilateral relations and energy security. A primary outcome of the talks was an agreement to launch the Zaláta–Dravica joint natural gas exploration and production project.

Discussions also focused on expanding the capacity of the Hungarian–Croatian natural gas interconnection. Minister Kapitány emphasized the importance of reliable oil supply cooperation, supporting continued dialogue between MOL and JANAF regarding the Adria oil pipeline.

Kapitány noted that Croatia is Hungary’s second most important market for foreign investment, with Hungarian companies having invested 5.4 billion euros in the country. Both nations expressed a shared interest in maximizing benefits from the European Union’s 2028–2034 financial framework.
