Hungary and Croatia agree to talks to resolve Ina-MOL energy dispute

Hungarian Prime Minister Péter Magyar and Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenković have agreed to pursue a resolution to the long-standing dispute between the Croatian oil company Ina and the Hungarian firm MOL. Speaking on the sidelines of the Bled Strategic Forum, both leaders expressed a desire to open a “new chapter” in bilateral relations, which have been strained for over a decade by the energy conflict.

As part of this effort, the foreign and economy ministers of both nations have been instructed to begin formal discussions regarding the Ina-MOL relationship. Additionally, Croatian Foreign Minister Gordan Grlić Radman and Hungarian counterpart Anita Orban were scheduled to meet to advance these talks.

When questioned about whether Hungary would extradite MOL CEO Zsolt Hernádi, who is currently the subject of a European arrest warrant, Magyar declined to provide a direct answer. He instead stated that both countries have “domestic tasks” to address and that the possibility of a new chapter in relations was his response to the inquiry.
