Hungary and Romania fund major local infrastructure upgrades

The Miskolc municipality in Hungary secured a €1.04 billion non‑repayable EU grant to revamp the Hámori‑Lake area in Lillafüred. The plan includes complete renewal of the southern lakeside tourist trail, new walkways on the eastern and northern shores, and the construction of a roughly 150‑metre long panoramic terrace that partly extends over the water, aimed at enhancing safety, visitor experience and the local economy.

In Romania, the village of Homoródszentmárton completed an 8.8‑kilometre road‑asphalting project worth 13 million lei under the Anghel Saligny programme. The municipality must still obtain a 1 million‑lei loan to repay the project’s co‑payment after a budget supplement was required to cover higher material costs.

Both projects illustrate regional authorities’ efforts to improve transport and tourism infrastructure with a mix of EU and national funding.
