Romania and Hungary mark 30 years of bilateral cooperation treaty
Experts from Romania and Hungary gathered in Budapest for a conference titled ‘European Legal Culture and Strategic Cooperation – New Dimensions of Hungarian-Romanian Cooperation in the European Union’. The event marked the 30th anniversary of the signing and entry into force of the Treaty of Understanding, Cooperation, and Good Neighborliness between Romania and Hungary, originally signed in September 1996.
Participants discussed enhancing bilateral cooperation within the European Union, focusing on shared regional interests. Key areas of priority included strategic, legal, and economic cooperation, the strengthening of energy interdependence, cross-border support, and the promotion of social cohesion.
The conference was organized by the Pázmány Péter Catholic University, the Office of the Commissioner for Fundamental Rights, and the Romanian Embassy in Hungary. Speakers included Gabriel Șopandă, the Romanian Ambassador to Hungary, and Géza Jeszenszky, a former Hungarian Foreign Minister.
