Hungary announces disability support grants and community initiatives
In Hungary, new funding and community initiatives are supporting individuals with disabilities. The Slachta Margit National Institute for Social Policy, at the request of the Ministry of Social Affairs and Family, has announced over 343 million forints in non-refundable grants for 2026. These funds are intended for local, regional, and national organizations to support professional programs, including services, training, sports, cultural activities, and workplace adaptations.
Individual organizations can apply for grants ranging from 500,000 to 5,000,000 forints, with specific categories allowing for higher amounts. The initiative specifically aims to strengthen smaller organizations with lower operating capacities and encourages programs that involve people with disabilities directly in their development.
Complementing these systemic supports, community-level engagement continues through events like the 15th Óbudai Rehab Athletics Cup in Budapest. This competition brought together athletes from nine different institutions to compete in various disciplines, including running, long jump, ball throwing, curling, and fencing, promoting physical development and social inclusion.
