Hungary announces energy efficiency subsidies and loans

The Hungarian government is preparing a multi-year program to improve energy efficiency in single-family homes and condominiums. Part of the 2027 budget, the initiative aims to support up to 120,000 families by the end of the decade through non-refundable grants and interest-subsidized loans covering up to 95% of eligible costs.

Under the proposed plan, single-family homes could receive up to HUF 15.5 million, while condominiums may receive up to HUF 5.2 million. Eligible upgrades include solar PV systems, heat pumps, insulation, and modernizing windows and doors. One specific component of the program targets energy storage, with up to 57,000 families eligible for subsidies of up to HUF 2.5 million for new solar and battery installations, or HUF 1.8 million for upgrading existing solar systems.

István Kapitány of the Ministry of Economy and Energy stated that the HUF 600 billion budget could generate approximately HUF 1,100 billion in orders for the construction industry. The implementation and detailed eligibility criteria are subject to the adoption of the proposed budget and further legislation.
