Hungary announces major restructuring of tourism management system

The Hungarian government has announced plans to fundamentally restructure the nation's tourism management system. István Kapitány, Minister of Economy and Energy, initiated consultations with key industry organizations to develop a more predictable and competitive framework for the sector.

The reform process involves collaboration between the Ministry of Economy and Energy, the Hungarian Tourism Agency (MTÜ), and various professional associations, including the Association of Hungarian Hotels and Restaurants, VIMOSZ, MaReSz, the Association of Hungarian Travel Agencies, and the Association of Hungarian Visitors.

The initiative aims to involve industry stakeholders as active partners in the decision-making process, ensuring their expertise is integrated into the preparation of new laws and strategies. The discussions covered critical issues such as destination management development, the regulatory environment, workforce market challenges, and short-term necessary measures. The tourism sector currently provides livelihoods for approximately 400,000 people in Hungary.
