Hungary launches emergency aid for drought‑hit corn farmers

The Hungarian government issued a ministerial decree granting non‑repayable emergency aid to agricultural producers whose 2025 corn harvest suffered a loss of more than 30 % due to drought. Eligible farms must have declared corn acreage in their 2025 unified application and received a loss assessment from the agricultural damage authority. Applications are accepted electronically between 22 July and 5 August 2026, with a total budget of up to €10.8 million, and payments are to be made by 30 September 2026. The decree also notes that Hungary has asked the European Commission to activate the EU agricultural crisis fund for additional support.

In a related move, the Ministry of Agriculture amended its producer‑group funding programme, allowing established groups that have operated for at least five years to apply for up to €100 000 per year for new activities. The application deadline was extended to 31 August 2026, with further submission windows planned for later in the year.
