Hungary braces for heat wave and intensified rainwater management

A summer heat wave is forecast to sweep across Hungary, with daytime temperatures expected to climb to 30‑32 °C by mid‑week and a prolonged period of strong sunshine. The forecast notes that, from Thursday onward, the region could experience several consecutive days of high heat, prompting health advisories on fluid intake and UV protection.

At the same time, intensified summer showers are straining urban drainage systems. New guidelines urge retaining rainwater on site—using ponds, infiltration, and other measures—to relieve overloaded sewers, protect soil moisture, and reduce flood risk. Experts stress that traditional rapid‑drainage methods are inadequate for the increasing volume of short‑duration storms, and that on‑site water storage is becoming a regulatory requirement for new developments.
