Hungary cautions drivers on tyre pressure and toll vignette mistakes

Hungarian motorists are being reminded that maintaining the correct tyre pressure is essential for safety and fuel efficiency. Bridgestone data show that a 20% loss of pressure can increase fuel consumption by 3%, while a 55% loss can raise it by 10%. Under‑inflated tyres also lengthen braking distances, cause uneven wear, and raise the risk of aquaplaning, and drivers may face administrative penalties if tyre tread depth falls below legal limits.

At the same time, authorities urge drivers to double‑check the details when purchasing highway toll vignettes. Mistakes such as an incorrect licence‑plate number, wrong vehicle class, or improper validity period can be treated as unauthorised road use, leading to additional fees or fines even if the error is corrected later. A brief verification before completing the purchase can prevent unnecessary costs and administrative hassle during the busy summer travel season.
