Hungary clarifies status of Lipizzan horses at British Royal Court

The Hungarian Ministry of Agriculture and Food has clarified that the country does not intend to recall two Lipizzan horses currently held by the British Royal Court. The clarification follows reports in the British press suggesting that the Hungarian government sought to retrieve the animals, which were originally presented to King Charles III as coronation gifts.

The Ministry explained that while a letter was sent in July requesting the termination of the loan agreement, the document was “inaccurately formulated.” The error was promptly corrected to ensure the British side understood that the horses should remain at the Royal Mews. The Ministry stated that the horses, which remain property of the Hungarian state, should continue to serve as “worthy ambassadors” of Hungarian Lipizzan breeding and Hungarian-British relations.
