Hungary education ministry reviews student proposals and rolls out first‑grade supply kits

In July 2026 the National Student Council met with the Ministry of Education and Child Welfare to present a set of reforms. The proposals call for stronger mental‑health support, modernised school infrastructure, more empowered student self‑government and a greater role for vocational training in policy decisions. Minister Judit Lannert praised the students’ preparedness, saying, "It was a pleasure to see the students' preparedness and commitment," and announced that the ministry will continue the dialogue and start detailed negotiations on the council’s recommendations in August.

Concurrently, teachers and the Hungarian National Council have prepared a comprehensive back‑to‑school package for children entering primary school. The kit includes a Staedtler pen case, drawing and measurement tools, water‑colours, scissors, modelling clay, assorted paper, crayons, glue, tempera paints, brushes, several formats of notebooks, a reading‑learning book, a children’s activity booklet, a letter from the council president and name‑badge stickers. The supplies are provided free of charge so parents do not need to purchase them separately.
