Hungary establishes regional center for animal welfare research

The University of Veterinary Medicine Budapest has announced that Hungary is positioned to become a major regional center for animal welfare research and education by 2026. The university describes its approach as a unique scientific ecosystem that integrates multiple universities and scientific disciplines.

Key components of this model include interconnected educational programs, specialized research infrastructure, and a scholarship scheme designed to support future researchers. The initiative emphasizes interdisciplinary collaboration, specifically between veterinary science and legal studies, and includes postgraduate programs specializing in animal protection.

Additionally, the region’s first interdisciplinary, bilingual scientific journal dedicated to animal welfare, ‘Acta Animalia Hungarica’, has launched with a redesigned website. To support academic growth, the Animal Protection Is Our Common Cause Foundation has opened scholarship applications for six postgraduate programs at partner institutions.
