Hungary weather: Sunny days ahead following record cold temperatures

Hungary is experiencing a period of significant temperature fluctuations. Recent reports from HungaroMet indicate that temperatures dropped below freezing across much of the country, with lows reaching as low as minus 8.3 degrees Celsius in Zabor and below minus 8 degrees in Nyírtasson and Lénárddaró. These readings set new seasonal records for cold.

Despite the recent freeze, the immediate forecast predicts a return to sunny and dry conditions through the weekend. Daytime highs are expected to range between 7 and 13 degrees Celsius. However, residents should prepare for cold mornings with temperatures potentially dropping to between minus 9 and plus 1 degree Celsius, accompanied by fog and mist that may impact visibility and travel.

A shift in weather is anticipated starting next Tuesday, when a precipitation zone is expected to move across the region, bringing rain and slightly milder temperatures. While recent autumn rainfall has helped replenish surface soil moisture, deeper layers remain critically dry, particularly in the Alföld region, posing ongoing challenges for the agricultural sector.
