Hungary sees cooler mid‑July weather with scattered showers and wind

On Wednesday, 22 July, Hungary is expected to have mainly sunny conditions with scattered cloud cover, while a cold front will bring isolated showers and thunderstorms, especially along the Ózd–Szeged corridor. Temperatures will range between 22 °C and 27 °C during the day, with night lows of 12 °C–18 °C in northern valleys. The north‑north‑west wind will strengthen in places, and gusts may accompany the rain cells. HungaroMet issued a yellow warning for thunderstorms across all counties, noting risks of lightning, brief strong winds and possible hail.

The cold front will cause a brief cooling, after which anticylonic high‑pressure will return, leading to a warm weekend with highs climbing above 30 °C. Meteorological models also suggest a possible later heat wave in late July–early August, with the US GFS model projecting peaks near 42 °C and the European ECMWF model around 35 °C, though these remain forecasts. Sensitive individuals may experience headaches, fatigue or joint discomfort during the front.

Overall, the forecast indicates a short period of unsettled weather followed by a return to typical summer heat later in the week.
