Hungary extends Szentendre traffic restriction and plans Óbudai K Bridge overhaul
The Hungarian Public Road Non‑Profit Ltd. announced that the partial one‑way traffic scheme on Rózsa Street in Szentendre, introduced on May 26, will remain in force until 15 June 2026. During this period only one lane on Rózsa Street is usable for traffic toward the 11th main road, and vehicles cannot enter the street from the 11th road side. Drivers are urged to observe speed limits and exercise caution near the work site.
Separately, Budapest Közút Zrt. has launched a procurement process to select a contractor for the renovation of the Óbudai K‑bridge, which connects the city to Hajógyári Island. If the contract is awarded, work is slated to begin in autumn 2026 and finish by summer 2027, or by the end of 2027 if an optional extension is exercised. The overhaul will replace the deteriorated deck slab, widen the carriageway from 2.8 m to 3.5 m, apply corrosion protection to steel elements, and upgrade drainage, expansion joints, and safety installations while preserving the bridge’s historic appearance. Traffic on the bridge will be maintained during major local festivals in 2027.
