Hungary braces for weekend thunderstorms, heavy rain and sharp temperature swings
Hungarian meteorological service HungaroMet has issued a citron (yellow) warning for thunderstorms across the country for the coming weekend. Forecasts call for widespread heavy rain, frequent showers and intense convective activity, with the north‑western wind strengthening to gusts of 55‑75 km/h and occasional hail. The weather will be markedly different across regions: western and central areas will be cool and cloudy with temperatures as low as 10‑16 °C, while eastern parts may see milder, dry conditions reaching 20‑24 °C. A low‑pressure system moving over the Danube region is expected to bring sustained rain on Saturday, especially in the Transdanubian area, while the east may experience brief sunny spells before the next wave of showers. Temperatures will drop in the evening to 8‑16 °C nationwide. The service advises the public to monitor radar and warning updates, particularly when traveling.
