Hungary gender pay gap narrows but remains among EU's highest

The gender pay gap in Hungary decreased by 0.9 percentage points between 2023 and 2024, falling from 17.8 percent to 16.9 percent. However, this improvement matches the average progress seen across the European Union, which saw its gap narrow from 12 percent to 11.1 percent.

Despite the reduction, Hungary remains among the countries with the highest wage disparity in the EU, ranking fourth worst. The gap between Hungarian wages and the EU average remains constant at 5.8 percentage points. In contrast, countries like Luxembourg reported a negative gap, where women's average hourly earnings slightly exceeded those of men.
