Hungary implements major leadership changes in education sector

Hungary is undergoing significant leadership changes across its educational institutions. In the public education sector, 359 new principals have been appointed to lead state-maintained institutions for the upcoming cycle. During a ceremony at ELTE, Marietta Kókayné Lányi, State Secretary for Public Education, and Edit Sinka, President of the Klebelsberg Centre, presented appointment certificates to the new leaders. Officials emphasized that these principals are tasked with leading communities and shaping future generations rather than merely managing administrative duties.

Simultaneously, the Ministry of Education and Children announced a major restructuring of university foundations. Following a competitive application process involving over 1,200 applicants, 98 percent of the members of boards of trustees and supervisory boards for universities maintained by public interest asset management foundations (KEKVAK) have been replaced. The selection process, which involved 168 vacancies, aimed to introduce legal and financial expertise alongside academic representation. The Ministry noted that the new boards will primarily focus on providing data for foundation audits and managing tasks related to the planned dissolution of these foundations.
