Hungary implements new public education law amendments
New amendments to laws and government decrees concerning public education entered into force on August 20. These changes aim to increase the organizational and professional autonomy of educational institutions.
Key provisions include expanding the employer rights of principals at schools maintained by school district centers. The reforms also restore decision-making powers to teaching staffs regarding essential documents, such as organizational and operational rules, pedagogical programs, and annual work plans.
Additionally, the amendments restore collective rights for employees in the education sector and remove certain restrictions that previously limited the right to strike. The regulations also define the scope of sufficient services to be provided during strikes to ensure that the fundamental rights of children and students to development and education are not violated.
