Hungary implements seasonal tax audits and poultry restrictions

The National Tax and Customs Administration (NAV) has launched intensified inspections across Hungary, including Bács-Kiskun county, during the Halloween and All Saints' Day period. Authorities are targeting seasonal businesses such as wreath and flower sellers, costume rental shops, and vendors of holiday-specific products. The inspections aim to ensure compliance regarding receipt issuance, the use of online cash registers, employee registration, and the origin of goods. Violators face significant penalties, including fines of up to 2 million HUF for administrative failures and fines up to 40 percent of the value of goods for undocumented inventory. In severe cases, businesses may face a 12-day closure or the seizure of stock.

Separately, due to increased avian influenza risks, the National Food Chain Safety Office (Nébih) has implemented stricter poultry farming regulations. National Chief Veterinarian Dr. Imre Nemes has ordered mandatory housing for commercial poultry and enclosed feeding and watering for non-commercial flocks in high-risk districts. In Csongrád-Csanád county, all seven districts—Csongrád, Hódmezővásárhely, Kistelek, Makó, Mórahalom, Szeged, and Szentes—have been identified as high-risk areas requiring these preventative measures.
