Hungary implements major transport and aviation infrastructure upgrades

Hungary is undergoing extensive transportation infrastructure upgrades across road, rail, and air sectors.

In the rail sector, MÁV is implementing major renovations on several lines, including the Budapest–Cegléd–Debrecen–Záhony route and the Vámosgyörk–Gyöngyös line. These projects aim to eliminate speed restrictions, allowing trains to reach speeds of up to 80–120 km/h, thereby improving reliability and reducing travel times. Additionally, special transport services are being organized for the SZIN festival in Szeged, including night-time tram-trains and buses.

Roadworks are also significant, with major reconstruction of the Route 25 in Eger involving night-time paving to minimize daytime traffic disruptions. In Budapest, the Southern Ring Rail development is causing temporary lane closures on the Rákóczi Bridge.

In aviation, Minister Dávid Vitézy met with Wizz Air CEO József Váradi to discuss expanding operations at both Budapest and Debrecen airports. The discussions focused on new routes, fleet modernization with quieter Airbus A321neo aircraft, and the establishment of a joint working group to mitigate nighttime noise pollution over residential areas.
