Hungary issues new government bonds as discount grocery prices dip
The Hungarian State Debt Management Center (ÁKK) is issuing new FixMÁP and MÁP Plusz government bonds. The new FixMÁP series (2029/Q2) has a 3-year maturity, a 5.50% annual interest rate, and an annualized yield of 5.62%. Interest is paid quarterly. Individual investors can purchase up to 250 million HUF in nominal value through a distributor. Simultaneously, the 2031/M6 MÁP Plusz series is being offered with a 5-year maturity and a stepped interest rate ranging from 5.00% to 6.00%, with a maximum annualized yield of 5.47%.
In the retail sector, a survey of discount supermarkets Lidl, Penny, and Aldi in Hungary shows a slight decrease in prices. A representative consumer basket of approximately 20 products cost 10,501 HUF, representing a 2.71% decrease from the previous month's 10,794 HUF. While most price drops were genuine rather than temporary promotions, certain items saw increases, most notably bananas, which rose by approximately 25.71% due to rising wholesale import prices.
