Hungary issues yellow weather warning as thunderstorms approach

Hungarian meteorological services issued a yellow, first‑level warning for thunderstorms across most of the country. The alert warns of possible heavy rain, hail and wind gusts of 60–80 km/h, especially from Wednesday evening into Thursday. Counties receiving the first‑level thunderstorm warning include all except Győr‑Moson‑Sopron and Vas, while Pest, Baranya, Bács‑Kiskun, Csongrád‑Csanád and Tolna were flagged for potential cloudburst conditions.

Forecasts for the coming days show variable weather with periods of sunshine interspersed with showers, possible hail and isolated thunderstorm activity, particularly over the western and southern regions. Temperatures are expected to range between 20 °C and 26 °C, with higher values in the east. Safety advice urges residents to secure outdoor objects, avoid parking under trees, and drive cautiously as sudden rain can reduce braking distances and cause brief icy patches.

The warnings will be reviewed as the cold front moves eastward, with conditions expected to improve by Friday, bringing clearer skies and milder temperatures.
