Hungary launches €20 billion AI initiative and joins EU satellite program

Science and Technology Minister Zoltán Tanács announced that Hungary will tap EU funds to join the InvestAI project, allocating €20 billion for up to seven AI "Gigafactories" that will provide cheap high‑performance computing to domestic firms and startups. The move aims to boost high‑value‑added services and close a ten‑year lag in the national economy.

At the same time, Hungary will become a partner in the EU IRIS satellite constellation – described as the "EU Starlink" – which will serve both civilian and defence purposes and reinforce national sovereignty. Regarding the Demján Sándor digital‑development program, the government said the second phase will not be launched; pending applications must submit final accounts by 30 September to receive existing support, and a new scheme will be devised for future digitalisation aid.
