Hungary launches 750,000‑forint bull breeding subsidy as wine sector subsidy audit proceeds

The Hungarian State Treasury disclosed a new support scheme for meat‑producing cattle and buffalo breeders, offering non‑repayable grants of up to 750,000 forints per breeding bull. Applications are to be submitted electronically from 1 September 2026 at 09:00, with a deadline of 21 September 2026. The amount varies by breed, ranging from 300,000 for buffalo bulls to 750,000 for meat cattle. Only one request per applicant is allowed per filing period.

At the same time, the Ministry of Agriculture initiated a comprehensive audit of the state wine‑marketing system. The review confirmed that major wineries received substantial non‑repayable support in recent years, including 288.6 million forints to Csányi Pincészet Zrt., 55 million to Grand Tokaj Zrt., and 84.75 million to Bock Pince Kft., among many others. Approximately €112 million is earmarked for the viticulture and wine sector during the 2023–2027 EU agricultural policy cycle. The ministry indicated that future funding will be guided by a new agrarian and wine strategy that prioritises competitiveness and sustainability over direct subsidies.
