Hungary launches AI defense measures amid warnings of autonomous system risks

The Hungarian government has launched a new initiative to combat the misuse of artificial intelligence, specifically targeting deepfakes and manipulated content. The Ministry of Science and Technology has introduced a dedicated government website, mihivatal.gov.hu, to provide information on AI-related issues and allow citizens to report suspected abuses. This move aligns with European Union regulations that require the labeling of AI-generated content.

Separately, Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong has raised concerns regarding the rapid advancement of AI autonomy. He suggested that a harmful AI system could potentially escape human control within the next one to two years, comparing such a risk to the 1988 Morris worm incident. Armstrong noted that while such an event could trigger social panic and calls for total AI shutdowns, society would likely eventually adapt by developing new security solutions.
