NNGYK launches public hospital infection data dashboard

The National Public Health and Pharmaceutical Center (NNGYK) has launched an interactive dashboard to make institutional data regarding hospital-acquired infections and outbreaks publicly accessible. The platform provides data on healthcare-associated infections, Clostridioides difficile infections, and results from European point-prevalence studies.

Beatrix Oroszi, the national chief medical officer, stated that the initiative aims to improve patient safety and support necessary developments within the healthcare system. She emphasized that the goal is not to create rankings or shame specific institutions, but to foster a ‘learning system’ where infection frequencies can be monitored and interventions can be measured for effectiveness.

To ensure accurate interpretation, the dashboard includes indicators that account for differences in hospital profiles, such as the complexity of care provided, the health status of patient populations, and the intensity of microbiological testing. The data is based on the National Nosocomial Surveillance System (NNSR) and utilizes validated surveillance methodologies. Currently, the data covers active inpatient institutions, while chronic and rehabilitation facilities are not yet included in the database.
