Hungary: Local regulatory changes and traffic enforcement updates

Various local developments and regulatory changes are occurring across Hungary. In Szeged, public space inspectors have begun enforcing a 2025 regulation that imposes 47,000 HUF fines on cyclists and electric scooter users operating in prohibited pedestrian zones, such as Széchenyi Square.

Regarding public transportation, MÁV has announced a change for student travelers. When purchasing discounted student passes, individuals must now provide their 10-digit permanent student ID number instead of their educational identification (OM) number. The grace period for using OM numbers expired on June 19, 2025, and passes using the old system will no longer be accepted during inspections.

In political commentary, criticisms have been leveled against Péter Magyar regarding the fulfillment of campaign promises, specifically concerning fuel prices, family allowances, and wage increases. Additionally, a dangerous driving incident was reported in Szeged involving a vehicle crossing three lanes and a solid line to exit a parking lot incorrectly.
