Hungary reports 524.3 billion forint budget surplus in July
The Hungarian Ministry of Finance reported that the central sub-system of the state budget recorded a monthly surplus of 524.3 billion forints in July. This represents a 537.1 billion forint improvement compared to the same period last year.
Despite the July surplus, the central sub-system closed the first seven months of the year with a total deficit of 2,857.9 billion forints, which constitutes 67.7% of the annual deficit target established by budget law. Within this system, the central budget showed a deficit of 2,773.6 billion forints, while social security funds recorded a 211.0 billion forint deficit.
The improved July balance was driven by a 300 billion forint reduction in expenditures for budgetary organs and departmental appropriations, a 109 billion forint decrease in state asset-related spending, and a 157 billion forint increase in tax and social contribution revenues. However, certain expenditures rose, including housing-related costs, which reached 299.7 billion forints, and state investment expenditures, which increased by nearly 100 billion forints compared to the previous year.
