Hungary moves ahead with railway penalty case and lower dockland redevelopment

The Hungarian government’s V‑Híd Network subsidiary is facing daily penalties of roughly 170 million forints as it delays a railway project valued at 34 billion forints. The penalty, equal to 0.5 % of the contract value, is owed by the Ministry of Infrastructure to the contractor owned by businessman Lőrinc Mészáros.

Separately, Budapest’s lower dockland is set for further renewal. The city transport authority confirmed that two sections – the Antall József quay between Kossuth Square and the Chain Bridge, and the Elisabeth Bridge riverbank – will be rebuilt with more than 7 billion forints in EU and domestic funds. The upgrades will add green pathways and pedestrian spaces, with construction planned to finish by 2029.
