Hungary orders full investigation into 4iG state ties
The Hungarian government has ordered a comprehensive investigation into the ownership, financial, and contractual relationships between the 4iG Group and the Hungarian state. Prime Minister Péter Magyar described the company as a ‘stealth mothership’ of the previous administration, alleging that strategic assets were acquired using hundreds of billions of forints in public funds.
The probe will cover all contracts signed under previous Orbán administrations and involves four ministries: Economic and Energy, Defence, Finance, and Science and Technology. Key areas of scrutiny include transactions involving Antenna Hungária and Vodafone Hungary, 4iG’s interests in the defense industry, and a framework agreement with the Ministry of Defence valued at over 1,300 billion forints. Additionally, the government will review satellite program contracts worth more than 850 billion forints and state financing or guarantees provided through the Gondosóra program.
Officials have warned against the destruction of evidence, stating that if irregularities or crimes are discovered, the cases will be referred to the appropriate authorities. 4iG has previously rejected allegations from opposition politicians, maintaining that its transactions were conducted with legal and financial experts.
