Hungary pension outlook: No inflation adjustments or bonuses expected

Hungarian retirees face a season without expected inflation-based pension corrections or pension bonuses. Current forecasts suggest that the autumn inflation adjustment will not occur because the Magyar Nemzeti Bank predicts an average annual inflation rate of 1.8% for 2026, which remains below the level of the January increase.

Additionally, a pension bonus is unlikely due to insufficient economic growth. The bonus requires GDP growth exceeding 3.5%, but the central bank forecasts only 1.8% growth. Furthermore, the 24.3 billion forint budget originally allocated for this bonus has been removed from the modified budget. Decisions regarding the retiree SZÉP card have also been delayed until January.

For those planning retirement, pension amounts will continue to be influenced by valorization multipliers. These multipliers adjust past net earnings to current levels to ensure a fair calculation of the average career earnings. In 2025, the net average salary was 483,785 forints, representing a 9% increase over 2024.
