Hungary playground safety inspections reveal widespread violations
The National Authority for Trade and Consumer Protection (NKFH), in coordination with government offices, has conducted a nationwide inspection of playgrounds to ensure compliance with safety regulations. During the first half of the year, authorities examined nearly 3,000 pieces of playground equipment.
The inspections revealed that 37% of the playgrounds checked had regulatory violations, while 35% of the specific pieces of equipment examined showed deficiencies. The scope of the investigation included public playgrounds, school and nursery yards, as well as private locations such as hotels, restaurants, and apartment complexes.
To address these findings, the authority has taken necessary measures, including banning the use of dangerous equipment until repairs are completed. So far, consumer protection fines totaling 14 million forints have been issued. Operators are reminded of their responsibility to conduct mandatory safety reviews, maintain proper documentation, and promptly fix any identified hazards.
