Hungary Secures Up to €10 bn EU Recovery Funding After Council Approval
EU finance ministers approved Hungary's revised Recovery and Resilience Plan, unlocking roughly €6.5 billion in grants and €3.5 billion in low‑interest loans for a total potential €10 billion in EU funding. The decision, announced on 10 July, ties payments to the implementation of anti‑corruption, public‑procurement transparency and judicial‑independence reforms, with a deadline for meeting milestones by August 2026. The European Commission noted that the new funding “is a welcome step in the fight against fraud and corruption”. The approval also clears the way for Hungary to join the European Public Prosecutor’s Office. The funds are intended for projects in green transition, digitalisation, education, health, transport and social inclusion, and aim to support public services and infrastructure after previous funding was blocked over rule‑of‑law concerns.
