Hungary Prepares for New 'Hunger Games' Prequel and 'Coyote vs. Acme' Releases

The dystopian sci‑fi franchise "The Hunger Games" will add a prequel titled "The Hunger Games: The Morning of the Harvest" (Hungarian "Az éhezők viadala: Az aratás hajnala"). The film, based on Suzanne Collins' newest novel, is set decades before Katniss Everdeen and follows a young Haymitch Abernathy, portrayed by Joseph Zada. Directed by Francis Lawrence and featuring a cast that includes Mckenna Grace, Whitney Peak, Jesse Plemons, Elle Fanning, Ralph Fiennes, Glenn Close and Kieran Culkin, it is scheduled to debut in Hungarian cinemas on 20 November 2026.

A second comedy, "Coyote vs. Acme" (Hungarian "Prérifarkas visszavág"), will arrive on 24 September 2026. After Warner Bros. Discovery withdrew from the project, Ketchup Entertainment acquired the rights. The film, directed by Dave Green and written by Samy Burch with story input from James Gunn, stars Will Forte as lawyer Kevin Avery, John Cena as Buddy Crane, Lana Condor and Tone Bell. A Hungarian‑dubbed trailer and poster have been released, and the movie will be shown in Hungarian theatres from late September.
