Hungary prepares for severe storm with possible red alert

A nationwide thunderstorm warning has been issued for Hungary on Wednesday, with second‑level alerts in three counties and first‑level warnings across the rest of the country. The weather service warned that intense rain could exceed 30 mm in a short period, accompanied by lightning, hail the size of a fist, and wind gusts over 100 km/h.

The most serious risk is in the southern Transdanubian region, where a red‑alert level could be declared in the evening as a large super‑cell system moves over the area. Temperatures are expected between 27 °C and 34 °C in the afternoon, dropping to 12 °C‑18 °C at night. Authorities advised residents to stay alert for possible flooding and property damage.
