Hungary proposes 120,000 HUF minimum pension increase
In Hungary, the government has proposed increasing the minimum pension from the current 28,500 HUF to 120,000 HUF. However, current pension laws may prevent certain individuals from benefiting from this increase.
Under existing regulations, the pension minimum does not apply if the proportional service time used for calculation is less than twenty years. This could exclude entrepreneurs who pay social security contributions based on a fixed monthly amount of 108,000 HUF, which is significantly lower than the projected 2026 minimum wage of 322,800 HUF. Consequently, those with shorter service histories or lower contribution bases may not reach the new minimum threshold.
