Hungary provides pension advances during administrative delays

In Hungary, individuals applying for pensions may receive a pension advance if administrative delays prevent the authorities from determining the exact benefit amount within 30 days of the application process starting. According to pension expert András Farkas, this mechanism ensures that eligible applicants do not face a loss of income during lengthy processing periods.

Delays often occur due to missing data, waiting for international verification from foreign authorities, or pending valorization multipliers. The relevant government office must decide on a pension claim within 60 days. If the exact amount cannot be established within the first 30 days, an advance is determined via an official decree based on available data and current regulations.

Applicants have the right to request a modification of the advance amount if new information, such as updated valorization multipliers, becomes available within four months of the process starting. Once the final pension amount is determined, any previously paid advances are fully credited toward the final benefit amount.
