Hungary pushes wind‑energy tender and speeds up farm aid payments

The Hungarian government announced a tender for 700 MW of new wind‑farm capacity to be published by 31 August, aiming for 4 GW of wind power by 2030. Commentator Magyar Péter criticised the ruling Fidesz party, saying it attacks wind projects because they can no longer be built and operated by allied firms, and accused Prime Minister Viktor Orbán of steering the sector from behind the scenes.

At the same time, Agriculture Minister Bóna Szabolcs revealed that the state will advance about 106 billion forints in direct farm subsidies ahead of schedule. The early payments, starting mid‑August, are intended to help farmers cope with drought, extreme weather and high input costs. The first disbursement will go to dairy cattle owners, followed by basic and redistributive support later in the month.
