Hungary reports fatal train gas incident and child death from collapsing concrete pillar

A passenger train traveling toward Budapest suffered a gas leak near Tápiógyörgy in Pest County on Saturday night, resulting in the death of one person. The incident forced trains on the Budapest–Újszász–Szolnok line to run on a single track, causing delays, and the affected rail crossing was temporarily closed while authorities investigate the cause.

Separately, in Heves County's village of Átány, a roughly 200‑kilogram concrete pillar toppled onto a six‑year‑old girl who was picking fruit, killing her despite rescue efforts. Emergency services deployed ambulances and a helicopter, but the child succumbed to severe injuries. Local officials say the incident is under investigation.
