Hungary reports severe motorbike crash and teen drowning
A 26-year-old motorcyclist was critically injured in a crash in the Zugló district of Budapest after a car without a licence made an unsafe turn and collided with him. The rider suffered multiple broken ribs, internal bleeding, a collapsed lung and brain injuries, required a five‑hour emergency surgery and spent several weeks in a coma before beginning a long rehabilitation. He has since withdrawn from motorcycling and is rebuilding his life while a criminal investigation into the driver continues.
In a separate incident near Hejőkeresztúr, a teenage boy drowned in the Debrecen‑Lake area after a rented water bike sank about 60–70 metres from shore. The three friends on the bike managed to reach land, but the third could not stay afloat. Rescue divers recovered his body the following morning. Police are investigating the accident, noting that none of the youths wore life jackets and the water bike’s condition was questionable.
