Hungary reports strong economic growth and unlocks EU funds

Hungarian Minister of Economy and Energy István Kapitány announced that the national economy is on a growth path, noting that excluding the agricultural sector, real GDP growth reached 2.1 percent in the second quarter of 2025 compared to the previous year. This represents the strongest performance for the Hungarian economy since 2010 when adjusted for the agricultural sector. Industrial performance grew by 3.7 percent, while the services sector saw a 1.9 percent increase. Household consumption also rose by 4.5 percent.

In a related development, Minister Kapitány stated that Hungary has fulfilled all necessary conditions to access European Union funds, which is expected to bring approximately 10 billion euros into the country. Of this amount, over 3 billion euros are designated for the economy and energy sectors. Specifically, 540 billion forints are allocated to energy, grid development, and renewables, while an additional 650 billion forints will be channeled through the Hungarian Development Bank to support businesses, energy efficiency, rental housing, and student accommodations.
