Erasmus+ program to return to all Hungarian universities

The Erasmus+ program is set to return to all Hungarian universities starting from the 2026/2027 academic year. Education Minister Judit Lannert announced that the government has completed necessary measures, with 21 previously affected universities already holding valid mobility applications for that period.

This restoration follows a period of uncertainty caused by the European Commission's decision to suspend Erasmus participation for universities operating under a specific foundation-based model. The EU had raised concerns regarding transparency and the management of funds within these institutions. The new government has committed to reforming the university foundation system to ensure compliance and restore access to both Erasmus+ and Horizon Europe research programs.

In a related development, the University of Szeged (SZTE) reported record-breaking international interest, with over 1,500 new foreign students expected for the 2026/2027 academic year. Applicants represent 92 countries, with significant numbers from China, Turkey, South Korea, and several Middle Eastern nations. The university also continues to facilitate mobility through the Stipendium Hungaricum and Erasmus programs.
