Hungary reviews potential dissolution of SZTFH regulatory authority

The Hungarian government is reviewing the potential dissolution of the Regulatory Authority for Regulated Activities (SZTFH). According to a government decree published in the Magyar Közlöny, Justice Minister Márta Görög has been tasked with preparing a report by September 30 regarding regulatory solutions to dissolve the authority and transfer its duties to government-controlled bodies.

Established in October 2021, the SZTFH is an independent regulatory body overseeing diverse sectors, including gambling, tobacco retail, mining, geology, and the supervision of court bailiffs and liquidators. The authority manages significant economic areas; the sectors it regulates contribute over 1,000 billion forints annually in tax and contribution revenues to the central budget and provide direct employment for more than 50,000 citizens.

In response to the review, the SZTFH issued a statement emphasizing its role in maintaining a predictable regulatory environment and its importance to the national economy. The authority stated it will cooperate fully with the designated minister to complete the legal audit.
