Hungary ramps up roadworks and riverfront projects, prompting traffic closures across several cities

In Nagykanizsa, the Sugár út segment between Rákóczi and Vörösmarty streets was closed to all traffic for a full‑scale resurfacing that will last until the end of August. The works forced the city’s bus lines 2, 8, 8Y, 18 and 18Y to use temporary stops, while emergency vehicles retain access.

In the city of Eger, the second phase of the reconstruction of Main Road 25 began on 22 June. The project includes lane closures, bridge work, a month‑long shutdown of part of the Régi Cifrakapu út, and temporary suspension of several bus stops, leading to expected congestion through the summer weeks.

Szentendre held a public hearing on 18 June about the ongoing partial renovation of Route 11. Officials presented the remaining work schedule, night‑time paving to limit disruption, material shortages of a special bitumen, and traffic‑management measures such as new central islands and revised turn lanes.

In Budapest’s Újbuda district, planners proposed a green corridor along the Danube that will link pedestrian and cycling routes to the Galvani Bridge area. The scheme integrates preservation of industrial heritage buildings and protection of Natura 2000 wetland sites, aiming to transform the previously underused riverbank into a public green space.
