Hungary seeks extension of US sanctions exemption on Russian oil

Hungarian Prime Minister Peter Magyar has expressed hope that the United States will extend Budapest’s exemption from sanctions on Russian oil. Following an agreement reached by the White House regarding diesel fuel exports, Magyar stated it would be ‘illogical’ not to extend this exemption for Hungary for at least another year.

In September, Hungarian Minister of Economy and Energy Istvan Kapitanj noted that Moscow remains Hungary’s primary supplier of gas and oil due to economic viability, despite the availability of alternative energy sources.
