Hungary sees record high food‑delivery tipping rates
In 2025, the food‑delivery app Foodora reported that more than 21 % of orders in Hungary included an online tip, the highest share among the more than 70 countries covered by its parent company Delivery Hero. The global average tip rate was only about 9 %, with the Czech Republic and Austria trailing Hungary.
Hungarian users most often select the 250‑forint option, and many set the amount before the courier arrives. Both Foodora and Wolt state that any tip given through the app is transferred to the courier in full, without deductions. Tipping is voluntary; 67 % of surveyed Hungarians said they are willing to tip, usually when satisfied with the service. Delivery couriers rank among the most frequently rewarded service providers, alongside restaurant staff, hairdressers and beauticians. The share of orders with tips rose from 13 % in 2024 to 18 % in 2025.
