Man detained after car vandalism and police bite in eastern Hungary

A middle‑aged man in a small eastern Hungarian village used an iron bar and later a shovel to damage several cars and threaten pedestrians. Police officers arrived, ordered him to drop the shovel, and used an electric stun device. The man fell, recovered, and again brandished the shovel, forcing three officers to subdue him with physical force. During the arrest he bit an officer’s forearm, causing a wound that required eight days to heal.

The Debrecen Regional Prosecutor’s Office charged him with armed assault on a public official and minor bodily injury, and a district court ordered a one‑month detention, which he has appealed. The police also opened a separate investigation for property damage to the vehicles.
